Rethinking the way materials can be used and the thermal comfort within an enclosure, my group members and I designed a new type of roof shingle. Made with moss, this design allows rainwater to be soaked up and flow down between roof tiles. With this new building material in hand, we created a whole architectural system that would fit within the courtyard of the Art & Architecture building at the University of Michigan. We explored multiple different ways an interior space could be created and looked at what programmatic elements could occupy these different spaces.
