Chromatic Flow
Fall 2020 Studio
Instructor: De Peter Yi

After studying the Melnikov House, designed by architect Konstantin Melnikov, I designed an original house inspired by its core features. This house focuses on the way light interacts with space and how different rooms can flow together. By using different colored glass for the windows, I created a way of representing where different programmatic elements in the house are located and a tool to set different moods throughout the spaces. I took the idea of rotation that the Melnikov house has and created a similar experience without the use of any curves. A resident can experience every level of the house while winding their way up and down the central stairwell. The stairwell is encased in three panes of green glass that also act as a way to connect family members even while they are residing in different rooms.
